  Thallus pendulous, to 30 (–60) cm long, grey-green; branching anisotomic, subdichotomous; secondary branching subparallel; trunk pale; branches terete, 0.5–1.0 mm wide, with irregular cracks in annular rings, never completely decorticate; apices tapered; without branchlets; fibrils numerous, curved, irregularly arranged, to 3 cm long; papillae sparse to moderately numerous on older branches, pale. Isidia sparse or absent; pseudocyphellae absent or on the tips of papillae; soralia absent. Cortex smooth to uneven, dull or glossy, cracked, scurfy, irregularly eroded with shallow fissures filled with regenerative tissue. Medulla dense, narrow; axis half the width of the branch, hyaline, with occasional dusky patches through it. Apothecia not seen. CHEMISTRY: Cortex containing usnic acid. Medulla K+ bright yellow; containing stictic acid (major), constictic acid (minor), menegazziaic acid (minor), cryptostictic acid (trace) and norstictic acid (trace).
     
  Occurs on branches of emergent rainforest trees in montane forest in eastern Qld. Also in Thailand.
